The intent of the competition is to highlight the strength of research within the society. To recognise and reward the scientific excellence within the society and communicate this strength and excellence to the wider community.

We invite nominations of quality papers that report on groundbreaking discoveries, reflecting the inspiring researchers that make up our society. We welcome entries from all disciplines related to wound healing and tissue repair. The paper should educate and captivate the reader’s attention, raising awareness and intrigue about the research. The award has 3 categories:

  • PhD
  • ECR
  • Open

Terms and Conditions

  • Applicants must be a current financial member of AWTRS.
  • The publication is original research. Narrative reviews, Systematic Reviews, editorials, and commentaries (or similar) are not eligible.
  • The ‘Paper of the Year’ must have been accepted for publication (and available online) between January and December of that year.
  • Applicants for the PhD category must be the first author (alone or joint) on the publication. The research in the publication must be from their PhD research. The applicant can be a PhD student or have had their PhD conferred within 2 years (taking into account career disruption) at the time of submission.
  • Applications for the ECR category must be the first (alone or joint) or last (alone or joint) author. The applicant is within 7 years of their PhD conferral (taking into account career disruption) at the time of submission.
  • Applications for the open category must be last (alone or joint) author. Applicants must be more than 7 years post conferral of their PhD (taking into account career disputation) at the time of submission.
  • Each publication can only be considered for one (1) award category.
  • If the entry depicts Aboriginal knowledges, every effort has been made to ensure protection of Aboriginal Peoples rights to traditional knowledges.
  • A subcommittee of the AWTRS committee (minimum 3 people) will review the submission and select a recipient for each category. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the publication, as well as the contribution to the wound healing and tissue repair field.
  • Applications must be submitted no later than December 15 to be considered for that year.
  • A maximum of 1 ‘Paper of the Year’ will be awarded in each category per calendar year.
  • The decision of the subcommittee of the AWTRS committee is final.

Prizes

  • Paper of the Year recipients for each category will be featured in the AWTRS newsletter, as well as being listed as “Paper of the Year” on the AWTRS website and all affiliated social media channels.
  • Paper of the Year recipients for each category will receive a 1-year AWTRS membership.
